The family and friends of Angela Ramirez are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against breast cancer. Please show your support!

In the eyes of my family and friends it appeared that we were living the "American Dream". Angie and I met in January of 2003. We already had other children from previous relationships. I had Junior and Isa, she had Kaleb. By October of 2003 she gave birth to Lorenzo and in December of 2004 she gave birth to Ada. In August of 2005 we bought a house and “tied the knot”. We became members of Gurnee Community Church in 2006. Angie and I are both educated and hard working. Despite our struggles as a “blended family” we have been able to provide our children with opportunities that neither one of us had growing up.

We have experienced and endured many struggles as a family such as illness of loved ones, death and financial hardship however nothing would prepare us for the news that we would receive. In June 2011 we received the news that Angie had Breast Cancer. We were devastated. It seemed our “American Dream” was crashing down on us. Our lives were about to change forever. We went from a working, two income family to a one income family overnight. The days of getting the kids off to school and going to work were over. Now it was getting the kids off to school and headed to the Doctors offices for consultation with surgeons, oncologists, radiologist and plastic surgeons. The double mastectomy, the healing, having her port put in, more healing, the chemotherapy, more healing the process has seemed to be never ending.

The strain it has put on our family is almost unbearable at times and I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. In addition, not only has Angie has had to fight Cancer she’s had to fight for every bit of financial assistance. Her short term disability through her Retirement Plan we filled with “red tape”, her employer terminated her, had to fight for Unemployment Benefits and still fight the Social Security Administration for her SSD Benefits. I have been working non-stop just to pay our bills. This unexpected event has caused an enormous strain on our family mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially.
