Join James Sutherland’s sister to raise money to help him through difficult times. Please show your support!

My brother, James, is 58 years old and the appropriate wording is intellectually impaired. With my help, James is able to live on his own in Cedar Park, TX. He works at Goodwill Industries in Austin and loves his job……so much so that they have to force him to take off and use his leave. It is sad to say that in this day’s economy, his salary is not enough for him to live on his own. With house payment, property tax, utilities and gas expense taking the majority of his paycheck, it is hard for him to make ends meet. I retired from State service in 2009 in hopes that my retirement annuity would be enough to pay my burdens along with giving him financial support. It was okay for a while until the economy went south and gas prices skyrocketed. Since October of last year, I have applied for 27 jobs to return back to the workforce, but nothing has panned out yet. I need to go back to work to help him financially and to get him a more reliable vehicle to get him to work. I pray everyday that I do not get a phone call from him telling me that his little pickup won't start.
James attended Special Education classes all throughout his school years. He passed the driving part of his test to get his drivers license when he was a teenager, but failed the written exam. I tutored him and on the third attempt, he passed. I was a proud sister that day when he to got his drivers license.
In January 1999 after our mother passed away, James asked me to help him get a different job because he was teased so much at the Golden Chick fast food restaurant where he was cook. I went through Texas Rehab to get the job that he currently has with Goodwill and Texas Rehab diagnosed James as the sort of person that would “fall through the cracks”. The one thing that I fear the most, is that James will out live me and there will be no one to take care of him when he is much, much older.
So that no one takes advantage of him, I go with himm for oil changes/repairs on his pickup, go with him to doctor appointments because he does not understand the medical terminology and go to his house for scheduled repairs. While I was visiting my in-laws in Wisconsin in September 2010, James called me to tell me that his property had flood damage from Hurricane Hermine. I had to take care of the insurance claim over the phone and via email from Wisconsin without the insurance company bothering James. I have to go through his mail, because he does not know what is good mail and junk mail. I do the best that I can in getting his bills paid and and to assure that he has food on his table.

James just needs a small amount of funds right now to help him make ends meet and hopefully I will get a job soon to support him financially.
