Lyndi Nichole Peters is 4 years old and is hoping to get an iPad to get her 'voice' back. Please help in any way you can.

Lyndi Nichole Peters is 4 years old and has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. In laymans terms: her brain and her mouth do not communicate correctly. Lyndi has trouble forming consonant sounds and has been in speech therapy for 3 years with only small steps being made. Lyndi has difficulty expressing herself in the most basic of ways. She has difficulty asking for food, drink, particular clothing or toys.

Lyndi uses a combination of verbal expression and simple sign language to communicate with the world around her. Lyndi's hearing is perfect and she understands everything she hears, she just cannot communicate in return.

In July of 2011, Lyndi was accepted into a two week study put on by The Speeh Garden (www.speechgarden.org) to test the use of an iPad and and a speech app (www.proloquo2go.com) to see if and how it would improve her speaking skills.

Lyndi took to the iPad as if she had been waiting for someone to give her a voice. She instantly began carrying it with her everywhere and showing it to everyone she met (including her dolls and pets) Her mother (Tanya Peters) programmed Proloqou2go with simple phrases expressing her wants and needs. Instead of screaming in frustration - trying to communicate, she was able to push a button to express herself clearly. Even more amazingly, Lyndi began to truly express herself verbally in a more clear and recognizable manner.

Unfortunately, after the two weeks, Lyndi had to give the iPad back. She was heartbroken and didn't truly understand why she had to give up her 'voice'. Her parents (Donald and Tanya Peters) were equally devastated as, being both teachers struggling to make ends meet, they wonder if and when they will be able to afford to give Lyndi back her 'voice.'

All funds raised go to purchasing a basic iPad and the Proloquo2go app.
