Nate needs a seizure alert dog to help save his life.
*Please see Updates above*
Nate is 10 year old boy. He loves his animals and has lots of pets- a hamster, turtles, fish and a cat. He has lots of friends, and plays video games and Legos. Nate's a huge Star Wars fan and has tons of Star Wars toys and costumes. He's very close with his big sister, Aryana, and his parents, Merriah and Spencer, and loves family holidays. Nate has severe epilepsy. He has status epilepticus seizures, seizures that last several minutes and rob him of precious oxygen. Nate has been through years of medication trials, therapies and doctor appointments. This is a life threatening condition. Sadly, Nate is not a candidate for brain surgery and is at a very high risk for SUDEP, or Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy. Day to day medications are not working to prevent the seizures, and he has to be given emergency medication when a seizure begins. His parents are almost afraid to sleep, in case he has a seizure in the middle of the night and they can't respond in time with the emergency medications that will shorten these deadly attacks. A seizure alert dog will tell the family when Nate is about to have a seizure, giving his family time to administer the necessary medications. This dog will save precious minutes, and save Nate's life. A dog is $13,000, plus the costs of food and care. Nate's mom works in an elementary school as school counselor, and his dad has emptied retirement funds. Please help us raise money to cover the cost of bringing this life-saving animal in their family.
