On October 3 I'm kayaking 7 1/2 miles to raise money for a non-profit that inspires me, Chicago Adventure Therapy.

On October 3rd I'm paddling in the Chicago Flatwater Classic. It's the only paddling race on the Chicago River. As part of the process, I'm raising funds for a non-profit, called Chicago Adventure Therapy, a place where I've volunteered and worked and interned.

I am excited to be paddling for CAT, because it's a great way to support our Chicago at-risk youth. CAT allows youth to experience life through adventure, such as paddling, rock climbing, and navigation. Also, it allows them to learn how to deal with everyday challenges in creative ways.

I am a firm believer of the idea that kids can learn to manage/overcome their anxiety and stress through adventure and nature. For example, during the summer CAT worked with at-risk youth from a local agency. During the paddling program, one of the girls was so scared of the water that she was literally shaking. However, she still managed to get into a boat and to paddle around in the shallow water. On the third week of the program, she was paddling in deep water. One specific day, I realized that she has somehow switched kayaks in the middle of the deep water. When I asked her how she managed to do that, she confidently said that she walked over from one boat to another (we call this deck-walk). I was speechless. Her progress showed to be that kids like her can overcome any problem only if they put their mind to it and if they are given choices of how to do it.

So, I thank you for your generosity to donate to CAT, so that out Chicago youth can experience life in many different and creative ways.

Thank you,
