Your donation can make a huge difference for Jackie and her family as she recovers from bone marrow transplant.

When a friend or family member is faced with a challenge that seems overwhelming, we often say, “What can I do to help?” Our friend, sister, co-worker Jackie Hanson is faced with such a challenge. At only 46 years of age, Jackie was diagnosed with leukemia. After battling the disease for many months, Jackie received a bone marrow transplant in August of this year. Her road to recovery is a long one, but her sunny personality is always there trying to stay on the surface even when she is enduring pain that we all hope to never know.

Jackie and her husband Harlan recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. Harlan is doing an amazing job serving as her attentive caregiver.  Jackie is the proud mother of three sons and is a self-proclaimed hockey mom. Her boys mean the world to her, and her love drives their achievements. Her eldest, Bryce, is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University and currently lives and works in San Diego. Her youngest, Hunter, is a freshman at Claremont High School where her middle son, Lucas, a star hockey player, graduated this spring. For many years, Jackie has worked for Boral Roofing as a Pricing Administrator.

Jackie has been a faithful member of Upland First Church of the Nazarene for over ten years. Her spunk and personality kept children’s ministry exciting and fun as she administered the Caravans program, a type of Christian scouting. Even after Jackie became ill, she pushed herself beyond limits for months to continue her responsibilities with this vital ministry to children. With her strong support, Bryce served as leader of her church’s youth group until he moved to San Diego to pursue his career. Hunter is a skilled drummer who uses his talents in her church’s worship services at every opportunity. Lucas is always at his mom's side to help with whatever needs to be done.

Jackie’s contagious laugh and warm smile capture everyone that meets her. She is always willing to work hard and help others. She is loved by so many friends and family and still has a bright future ahead. Jackie is always discrete and modest about her needs, but fortunately, her friends are not. The needs exceed her medical bills since Jackie has been and will be on medical leave from her job for many months. Your donations, no matter how great or small, can make a huge difference for Jackie, Harlan and their boys.
