The family and friends of Keyonna Foley are uniting to raise money to help with her battle againt her abdominal desmoid tumor.

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you may know, my wife, Keyonna Foley needs your help. 3 years and 8 months ago at her postpartum checkup, just a month after giving birth to our son Seamus, doctors discovered a desmoid tumor intertwined in Keyonna’s small intestine. Because of the location, and size, of the tumor it was determined that surgery to remove the tumor was not an option. Over the last 3 years Keyonna has been treated at the University of Pennsylvania, Sloan Kettering and University of Georgetown using different forms of chemo therapy in attempts to shrink the tumor. Unfortunately these treatments were not effective and on April 1st, 2011 the tumor ruptured Keyonna’s small bowl. She was rushed to University of Pennsylvania Hospital where the surgical team worked over 6 hours to repair her bowl and saver her life.

Keyonna has bounced back from that surgery, but the tumor is still with her, acting like a ticking time bomb, threatening her life. The tumor causes Keyonna great pain and makes caring for our son very difficult. Keyonna is not able to eat or drink like healthy people can and the tumor is a great drain on her immune system, which makes her more susceptible to contracting other illnesses. Given this the medical team at University of Georgetown has determined Keyonna to be a candidate for a small bowl transplant.

As you may know, a transplant can be very expensive. Although Keyonna does have health insurance, there are many expenses not covered by her insurance. Some of these costs include: travel expenses, food and lodging with a possible relocation closer to the transplant center, as well as deductibles, co-payments, and anti-rejection medications. These costs will add up fast, and our young family does not have the financial capabilities to do this alone.
