Ivan Venzor was born with cerebral palsy and a love for skiing. This fund is raising money to get him special equipment to continue skiing.

Let me introduce you to Ivan Venzor. Ivan is from Gypsum, Colorado, is twenty years of age and has Cerebral Palsy. He is wheelchair -bound and has been in the care of his family for all of his twenty years. He cannot speak, cannot control his muscle spasticity, and has to have someone assist him with activities of daily living. Ivan does, however, ski! Yes, he is a Bi-Skier, which means that he is able to sit in a chair-like form that is mounted upon two fat skis and ski!!

Gypsum, Colorado is about forty miles from Vail, one of the largest ski resorts in North America. For the past five years he has been part of a specialty program in Vail called Small Champions. This program caters to children and teenagers with disabilities, ranging from deaf and blind, to Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. Participants ski ten weekends throughout the winter under the tutelage of qualified Ski Instructors from the Vail Ski and Snowboard School. Ivan’s Ski Instructors for the past three years have been Mladen Tasev and Jennifer Schwab.

Obviously Ivan cannot ski by himself, but with the help of Mladen and Jennifer, Ivan has experienced the freedom of flying down hill just like any able-bodied skier has when skiing down a mountain. At the end of every ski day, Ivan does not want to finish skiing. He loves it, and is almost angry that the day is ending or that he has run out of energy.

Here is where my story changes. Next winter Ivan is no longer part of the Small Champions Program, as he will be twenty-one years old. This means that he will not be entitled to a reduced rate for his ski lift pass. He will also not qualify for ski school lessons, and he will not be able to use the Vail Ski and Snowboard BI-SKI. Mladen and Jennifer will no longer be able to ski with him. In reality, Ivan may not have the opportunity to ski again.

In order to help Ivan maintain his passion for skiing, Mladen would like to give Ivan a BI-SKI. It is called the BI-SKI Mountain Man. If Ivan has his own BI-SKI, Mladen and Jennifer will be able to ski with Ivan on their days off and the three will continue to experience the joy of skiing together on Vail Mountain. A BI-SKI Mountain Man costs $3,600.00. With your help Mladen may be able to make this purchase.

Please help Ivan continue his dream to ski. Even the smallest of donations can help Ivan live the life he has always dreamed of. Thank you for your contributions.
