The family and friends of Jenia Tolbert are uniting to raise money to help assist with medical and daily living expenses.

Let me tell you about my sister, Jenia. She is not actually my sister by blood, but after being friends for 30 years, we call each other sisters. She is my female soul mate.
Jenia is 51 years old. She has been married to her wonderful husband, Sean, for 20 years. Jenia has four amazing children; three daughters (Nora, Amy and Amanda) and a son (Scott). She is the very proud grandmother of four; Madison, Taylor, Floyd Jr., and Nicholas.
Jenia’s life has not been an easy one. She was always “superwoman” as she worked a full time job, went to college, and raised her four children as a single mother. Jenia’s career ended 15 years ago when an automobile accident disabled her. Even since the life changing accident, she has cared for others before herself. Five years ago, Jenia’s husband, Sean, was injured at work. He has been through 3 back surgeries, and will soon have to endure another surgery. Sean is also disabled.
Early this summer, Jenia was diagnosed with heart failure. She is on oxygen, and a strict “no processed food” diet. Jenia uses a power chair when she occasionally leaves the house. She is not allowed to travel except to her doctor’s appointments at the hospital in Atlanta.
Jenia is one of the strongest women I know. She has always done whatever it took to take care of others, including her family, friends, and strangers. Jenia is a selfless, compassionate, thoughtful, and caring woman. For 30 years, I have always seen her put others before herself. Jenia will never ask for help when she needs it. She will always figure out a way to stretch a dollar. Jenia could make a pound of hamburger feed a dozen people, create a beautiful Christmas for her kids when she didn’t have a dime, and take people who needed a place to stay into her home when she could barely keep a roof over her own head. She is, in my eyes, and her friend’s eyes, a magnificent person!
Due to the recent diagnoses of heart failure, along with the constant doctor visits and medication costs, Jenia and Sean are having a very difficult time financially. They’re grocery bill has increased significantly due to the special diet that Jenia must maintain.
In the next couple of weeks, Jenia will be receiving an implanted heart defibulator. Shortly thereafter, she will be scheduled to receive a mechanical heart (LVAD). The doctors have told her she will probably never drive again.
With every day that passes, Jenia and Sean are finding it increasingly harder to just survive. They are in need of assistance for their rent, food, utilities, medical copays, and doctor bills. Jenia needs a ramp built so she can get her power chair in and out of the house, and a carrier, ramp and hitch for the car. In the upcoming weeks, they will also have the additional burden of the cost of a hotel room for Sean while Jenia is in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. The doctor’s estimate Jenia’s hospital stay will be two to three weeks. Jenia and Sean have discussed moving into a less expensive home in order to minimize expenses, however, neither one of them can physically handle a move, and frankly, a move right now could quite literally kill Jenia.
After all the years that Jenia has taken care of us, and been there for each and every one of us, it’s time for us to be there for her.
On behalf of Jenia, I am reaching out to ask for help. As you all know, this is not something that our “superwoman” or Sean would feel comfortable doing. That is why I am stepping up and asking for any help that you can give.
For all who know Jenia, let us all get together and show her our love, admiration and appreciation by giving her what she has always given us…her very best.
For those of you who don’t know Jenia, I hope that one day you can meet her, get to know her, and understand why she is so very important to all of us!

If you would like to contact Jenia, her address is 128 Alview Drive, Macon, GA 31206
