Running the Columbus Marathon to raise money for Romann Cairns' medical expenses related to Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy.

Hi! My name is Karen Schrodt, and I have been a pediatric speech therapist at Mercy Hospital in Canton, OH for 19 years. For 13 of those, I have worked beside an amazing woman named Christine Jones-Kramer, who has become my best friend as well my coworker. Several years ago, her family was given devastating news...her nephew, Romann, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is a progressive, degenerative muscle disease. The good news is that there are new medications and advances that are helping slow down the progression of the disease, allowing kids with DMD to live longer, fuller lives. Unfortunately, they are not yet approved in the U.S. because of the lengthy FDA process...they have to be purchased through the UK, and are very expensive. In an effort to help, I have decided to run the Columbus Marathon on October 21 in honor of Romann. My goal is to raise $10,000 for his family to help with the cost of these medications, as well as adaptive equipment not covered by insurance that will be needed as the disease progresses. I plan to pound the pavement, literally and figuratively, until this goal is met, and am hoping that everyone who reads this will help! Please go to the following link...any donation, no matter how small, will get me closer to my goal. Thank you SO much!
