1 1/2 year old, Jordan, is battling Leukemia. The funds will be used for Jordan's medical costs & related expenses not covered by insurance

Jordan's journey began on 10/24/10, when he was diagnosed with a bacterial bone infection in his leg. A few weeks later, on 11/8, we received the life-shattering news that our precious 16-month-old had leukemia.

We struggled to come to grips with this cruel and unfair reality. We never ever imagined that we'd have to tell anyone "Our little boy has cancer." And we’re still adjusting to the overwhelming, painstaking and emotionally/physically draining reality of managing Jordan's illness.

Thankfully, Jordan has responded well to all of the chemotherapy thus far and has been a trooper every step of the way.

However, it's the side effects (e.g., nausea, diarrhea and appetite loss), oral medicines (which he detests) and general isolation (at the hospital, outpatient clinic and at home) that have been torturous to him and us. Every single meal requires extensive cajoling, encouragement, and scolding to get him to take even a bite of solid food. Often, Jordan doesn’t take more than 15-20 ounces of milk and baby yogurt daily. He's also developed a gagging reflex. He cries because he wants to eat, but is afraid of throwing up. It pains us that our son can't fully communicate how he's feeling, where it hurts, and what he wants.

Jordan is affectionate and playful, but we need to be extra careful about our own hygiene, as well as that of any visitors. We’ve had to limit visitors because we can’t have him catching something while his immune system is seriously compromised. We’ve also had to limit public activities for his twin sister Kaitlyn because of the risk of her catching something that might endanger Jordan. He rarely gets out of the house for anything except clinic and hospital visits. We try hard to make home life fun and varied, but it’s exhausting.

All we can do is take it one day at a time. But make no mistake, we're determined to help Jordan beat this cancer and live a full, happy life. Our prayer is that Jesus will care for and heal Jordan completely.

We have health insurance, but it doesn't cover everything. And there are certain, expensive meds that aren't covered at all, which he'll have to take regularly until the end of his treatments -- which is 2/22/14. The financial burden of all this is already beginning to weigh down on us, and we're barely four months into his treatment. So it's with humility and hope that we turn to our family, friends and loved ones for support.
