Support Diane Schelkopf Warning - come to the benefit fundraiser on Saturday August 28th starting at 2:00 pm at Harwood Post 705 S. Larkin Ave. Joliet Illinois 60436. $10 Admission includes food & puts you in the raffle! Hourly prizes!

Life was just beginning to turn around for Diane.  She finally met the love of her life, Jeff, and they were married last year.  She is the sole provider and single parent for most of her 19 year-old daughter Valerie's life.  Diane went on to college and when she found out she was expecting Valerie, she decided to stay at a job which would ensure her daughter would have a roof over her head, instead of pursuing her own goals.   Valerie's educaton has been Diane's #1 priority, she has sacrificed everything to send Valerie to private high school and now college.

After saving all they could, Jeff and Diane were finally able to buy their home.  It is small, but it is located in an area which reflects the couple's love of  the outdoors.   Diane and Jeff have always been the type of people who welcome all their friends and family into their home.  Diane has been "the rock" for many people over the years.

If you are reading this, you probably have been touched by Diane or her family in some way.  Diane and Jeff are the first to help others out.  Diane is always there to listen and the best friend to share a laugh with, or cry a good cry.   She is always ready with a sarcastic comment or two which will make you feel better by putting it all in perspective in a way only Diane can do!

Diane and her family's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma breast cancer this past April.  Diane's doctors are treating the cancer with an aggressive treatment plan - 4 months of chemotherapy followed by 2 surgeries.  Diane will have a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery.  Doctors will then reassess with possibly more chemotherapy and radiation treatments after the surgery.

While the prognosis remains very favorable for Diane's recovery from this type of cancer, the next few months will be financially as well as emotionally draining.  Diane is treating this part of her life the same way she always does - managing to find the positive piece and remaining optimistic!  In her unique and positive way of looking at things, Diane is looking forward to her "new boobs" and having part of her body be as she was in her twenties again!  Her doctors say she is the "poster child" of optimism and positive attitude while battling breast cancer!

Diane could use your help now.   Please "give forward".  Someone will help you, as you help someone else.   The extra medical expenses are a financial burden for Diane and her family.  Although Diane has been courageously working throughout her chemotherapy treatments so far, she will need to take some time off of work.
