Dysautonomia Awareness

I created this fund raiser for Dysautonomia Awareness to bring awareness of the silent disease (Dysautonomia) to the medical community as so few of our doctors and health professionals are trained and therefore unfamiliar with Dysautonomia and how to treat it.

Dysautonomia is defined as a "dysfunction" of the "autonomic" nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is comprised of the sympathetic and the parasympathetic sections with the sympathetic side increasing our bodily functions when needed such as; heartbeat, blood pressure, indigestion, kidney function, and many more with the parasympathetic decreasing bodily functions when needed.

There are many types of autonomic dysfunction such as: P.O.T.S. or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome where patients quite often will faint upon rising from a sitting position or in severe cases, from a reclining position. P.O.T.S. can be a debillitating disease and for some, restricts there activity to constant bed rest.

M.V.P.S. or Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome is another form of Dysautonomia where the severity of symptoms can vary from patient to patient. These symptoms can include; chest pain, shortnes of breath, low excercise intolerance, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I.B.S.), unusual reactions to odors, stress and quite often, depression.

There are many additional facets of Dysautonomia with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.), Fibromyalgia, and the above mentioned conditions as mentioned in the previous paragraphs, many which left untreated, can greatly hinder a person's life style or even lead to a premature death

Our medical community and the general public must be made aware of this "silent disease" (where a person appears to be publicly healthy on the outside, but within the workings of their internal organs, rages a disabling and often deadly disease). If a person visits a doctor and presents symptoms relavent to Dysautonomia and the doctor or medical professional is unfamiliar with the disease, many times the treatment that is rendered by the medical professional, may worsen or even cause death. This is why we who suffer from this disease plead for your support. The first step in finding treatment for any disease is research and as most know, the cost of research is often a very time consuming and expensive task. Once research has found a treatment, the results go through many channels before a treatment can ever be given to the general public.

We know with the economy in such a negative state, it is difficult for many to contribute to any cause especially one that is unknown to most, but we plead with you to please go on line to www.dinet.org and do a little research of your own to see just what kind of suffering this disease can cause. We are convinced that once you see for yourself the devastating effects this disease has on so many of our world's population, you will be encouraged to give all you possibly can to make this a disease that is as easy to treat as one would treat a broken leg.

We thank you for your time and for your support. May God Bless each and every one!
