We started this campaign on behalf of Lelah Zemke and her family in order to cover her upcoming medical expenses.

Lelah is a dedicated mother, friend, naval veteran, and nurse who is too proud to ask for the financial assistance she needs.

While working at Botsford Hospital, Lelah was treating an inebriated patient in the ER who decided to jump off her gurney. Lelah attempted to catch the woman and break her fall. When she caught the woman, Lelah unknowingly injured her back. Not knowing she was injured, Lelah failed to submit a report at the time of the incident. It was later discovered that she had a serious back injury. After several attempts at different treatment methods, Lelah had spinal fusion surgery on her back in March 2014. The surgery did not work. On November 6 & 8, 2014, she had a 2nd set of surgeries to repair the damage. A few weeks after the surgeries, Lelah began experiencing episodes in which she would unexpectedly pass out. The episodes occurred in church, at her children's sporting events, and even while going down a flight of stairs, resulting in a concussion and broken ribs.

In January 2015, she was diagnosed with dysautonomia/neurocardiogenic syncope, a condition which causes a drop in blood pressure and heart rate, resulting in random fainting episodes. Over the course of the year her doctors have tried multiple different treatments from implanting a cardiac monitor to providing a variety of different medication combinations. Nothing has worked. She continues to have these random episodes. For the past year she has been unable to work, drive, or lead a normal life. As a result, her family has experienced financial hardship. Due to the loss of her income, they lost their house and Lelah is now living with her mother-in-law.

On November 16, 2015, Lelah will travel to the Mayo Clinic for a series of specialized cardiology tests. The hope is to identify the root cause of her illness and develop a treatment plan which will allow her to return to a normal life. Insurance will not cover all the expenses involved with the required testing, transportation, accommodations, and treatment. With their existing financial situation, this is more than the family can handle.

Lelah and her family are well known for their kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. We are asking for your help in giving to the Zemke family whatever you can. All monies raised will go toward covering her medical expenses. Thank you in advance for your generosity and watch for updates on the course of her treatment.
