The family and friends of Wendy Ruggiero are uniting to raise money to help her and her family through this difficult time.

Feb 20, 2013 2 days left... Over the past 5 months, we have raised over $83,000 for Wendy and her family. We wanted to thank each and every one of you for continued support and well wishes. We have 2 days left, so please continue to spread the word and help us reach our goal!! Wendy is still in a rehab facility and continues to be the determined, strong willed woman we all know her to be. She continues to fight every day and her family is anxiously awaiting her arrival home. Every single dollar helps make this transition easier and helps them prepare for her return home.  Update Oct 25, 2012 Wendy is currently in a rehab facility and has been undergoing treatment for about a month.    She still has a tracheotomy, but is now able to eat and breathe on her own.  Every day, she endures intense physical therapy to try and regain strength and movement throughout her body.    Unfortunately, there has been very little improvement and Wendy only has movement in her shoulders and wrists.   She continues to fight, but unfortunately the insurance company will not cover the cost of  this rehabilitation beyond 60 days unless they see continuous improvement.   Wendy is now expected to return home in mid November and her family is focusing on preparing for her arrival.    Aside from the emotional aspects of readying her family and children, they will need to prepare their home so she can continue to be cared for and so she can work to improve her condition.   At a minimum, they will be installing an elevator and wheelchair accessible ramps and will be purchasing a wheelchair accessible van for transport.   In addition, they will likely need home-care specialists to be there helping her on a regular basis.  As you can imagine, their expenses are astronomical and continue to mount.   Her spirits remain high and Wendy continues to be the strong, determined fighter we all know her to be.   We appreciate everyone's continued love and support.  As many of you are aware, Wendy sustained a broken neck and a severe spinal cord injury while diving into a pool. This terrible accident has left her with paralysis from the waist down. She has movement in her arms, but no controlled motion and no fine motor skills. In addition, the muscles that help her breathe are weak and confused, requiring her to use a respirator. As a result of these injuries, the electrical impulses of her heart are mixed up and she will now need a permanent pacemaker. These complications have delayed her release from the intensive care unit of the trauma center. Wendy has a long road of healing and rehabilitation ahead of her we all hope and pray for improvement of her condition when she is finally admitted to the rehabilitation center. At the same time, Isabella, Wendy and Dino's 4 year old daughter, continues to battle a neuroblastoma and OMS. Isabella is currently receiving treatment at Sloan Kettering in NYC for a recent relapse. This amazing support system will help give Wendy and her family the strength to deal with the emotional and financial challenges ahead. Once again, thank you all for your support and please keep Wendy and her family in your prayers.
