Colleen continues to battle the effects of Lyme disease. These funds will go towards daily caregiving and meds not covered by insurance.

Hi friends,

We are on an unexpected journey.

As we go about our lives - work, school, kids, church, friends, and everything in between - you never think for one second your life would change in such a immediate and drastic way.

But, then it does. (For those new to Colleen's story, go to www.give

Here we are, Fall 2012. This past summer there were countless doctor visits, ER visits, hospital stays, physical therapy, occupational therapy, doctor phone consults, doctor house calls, antibiotics, natural antibiotics, supplements, vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and the list goes on and on and on. In the midst of all these things though, Colleen continues to fight everyday, with her head up, holding and believing the promises of God. There have been days that she has literally fought for every breath, and even then, she will not let go or give up the fight. The bible says 'the strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble' (Prov. 18:14), and I have seen that in Colleen day after day. Her fight is unrelenting. Her faith is unwavering. Her belief is in Jesus.

She will forever be my hero.

But as the fight continues, so do our lives. Our 3 children - Annie (15), Sydney (12), and Dylan (5), have shown a resilience and fortitude that has left me speechless. They have seen their mother go through some pretty difficult days and weeks and still, they move forward. As their Dad I am in awe of the love they have for their mother, me, and each other in such trying and unsettling circumstances. No child should ever have to deal with such an insidious sickness towards a family member, especially their mother. But here it is, facing them day after day, and they bring hugs, kisses, perform extra household duties, receive rides to school, church, social functions from countless friends, family, etc, with nary a complaint or grumbling. They missed out on more than their share of summer fun this year, but still they are smiling. I love them. I could not ask for more amazing children.

The question many are asking is, "But how is Colleen?!?" As of today, she is wheelchair bound. She has extreme muscle weakness and weight loss. She needs help with all daily functions, things that all of us take for granted without a second thought. This disease has attacked her respiratory system, causing her on some days to fight to breathe. Currently, she is under the care of a Lyme doctor in Boulder, CO, and a specialist here in ABQ. She is on several antibiotics and natural antibiotics, and like mentioned above, countless vitamins, herbs, minerals, probiotics, et al. Because of her physicality at the moment, she has to take things slower than normal, making the recovery that much more sluggish. It is a daily, sometime hourly test of patience and fortitude, that without the grace of God, could not be passed.

I returned to work in June 2012. Because of this, we have had to hire 40 hour a week caregivers to be with Colleen during my time at the office. The first 2 months we hired a local company with wonderful employees to fill this need. Through a series of conversations with friends though, we found out that one of our friends at church was available for hire, and we immediately did. Kim has turned out to be an answer to our prayers, a true sister in the Lord, and just an all around amazing person. A definite God-send. :)

So that brings us to our 2nd GiveForward campaign. Truth be told, this is the last thing I ever wanted to do again. Having seen the outpouring of help in every way, shape, and form imaginable for months and months, I do not want to ask for anymore help. But I have had to learn that in times like these, those that God has surrounded you with are there to surround you and hold you when life takes those unexpected twists and turns. So I ask again for your help financially. The 1st GiveForward generated $21,435. As of today, $6,574 remain. Colleen does have medical insurance, but the majority of her expenses are not covered, including now her 40 hour a week caregivers.

The bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:10, “And God, Who provides ...”. We know God is our provider. He has sustained us through the darkest season of our lives. He has never left our side, and He never will. Circumstances may look trying but God has already provided the way out, through, around, over, under, whatever it takes, He is able to bring us, and you, through. He is forever our God. And we are forever His.

Words completely fail in saying thank you for your generosity. We have been humbled to tears on countless occasions by your help and love in so many ways. Please know that our hearts are forever changed by the selfless acts of love and grace we continue to see daily. We love you. And thank you.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” Isa 40:31
