This is the Marcelo Lynch Rehab Fund. All funds will go to Marcelo's medical obligations and related expenses not covered by insurance.

On Monday morning September 6, 2010, Marcelo didn’t have school because of the Labor Day holiday. He asked his mom if he could go out and play until finally she agreed. On the way out, his mom told him to be careful. Not long afterward, Marcelo was struck by a car and received a Traumatic Brain Injury. As the ambulance prepared to take him away, his mother came running to the scene; Marcelo was unconscious.

For the next three weeks his mother and father stayed by his bedside in the Pediatric Instensive Care Unit at All Children’s Hospital. After two near-death situations that required surgeries to his brain, Marcelo finally woke up, but, injuries of this nature don’t resolve themselves like in the movies. Unable to walk or use his left arm, since the injury he sustained affected these parts of his brain, he is now bound to a wheelchair. The boy who was so active in sports, climbing trees and Tae Kwon Doe is only now just beginning to stand on his own from his wheelchair.

Traumatic Brain Injury require intense Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies. Under his insurance, all of this is covered, but only light treatments. Nowhere near the quantity of therapy that he requires just to give him a chance to walk again or to be able to use his left arm and hand again. Marcelo’s father works as a manager at a popular furniture chain, but Marcelo’s mother, Paola has had to leave her job as a registered nurse in order to give Marcelo 100 percent care and to try and work with him on the therapies he requires. But running a household, caring for Marcelo’s two sisters and dealing with insurance matters, the girls’ school, driving back and forth to the hospital and everything that goes into being a normal mother has shown that Marcelo is not receiving the therapuetic attention he needs.

In an effort to help out my courageous nephew, sister and family I have started this fundraiser in an effort to relieve some of the mounting medical bills, which are a worry I would like to take away from her. As you can imagine, this unexpected family crisis will take quite a toll on Paola (my sister), emotionally and financially.
