We are uniting to raise funds for Debbie Porter to help with her battle against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Please donate.

Family and friends of Debbie are raising money to help with her battle against - Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). Debbie was diagnosed on May 18, 2009. As many of you may know, there is no known cure for ALS, and while life expectancy of an ALS patient averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis, those numbers mean nothing to Debbie. She is determined to beat ALS as she did cancer and is standing on solid faith and believing in God for complete healing.

In ALS, nerve cells (neurons) waste away or die, and can no longer send messages to muscles. This eventually leads to muscle weakening, twitching, and an inability to move the arms, legs, and body, and eventually breathe on one's own. These symptoms are greatly affecting Debbie’s daily lifestyle. Debbie has been unable to use her arms/hands for the past two to three years but otherwise has been able to function with some limitations. However, a few months ago, she fell and hit her head (direct blow) on the floor. She was hospitalized with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and cervical damage. The accident rapidly progressed her ALS symptoms and is quickly deteriorating her ability to use her legs to walk and she can no longer climb stairs at her home. In addition, Debbie is now having difficulty sleeping, breathing, swallowing, and has trouble holding her head up due to weakness of the neck muscles.

As a result of the rapid progression, Debbie was forced to retire from her U.S. Postal Service career of 33 years. Debbie needs urgent and immediate help to get her home converted into a handicap accessible home which will include an elevator to get to/from her bedroom, and a lift to get her wheelchair from the garage up the stairs into her home. Other immediate needs include a custom bed that elevates her head as she can no longer sleep lying down due to breathing difficulty, a generator, in-home medical care for bathing, feeding and routine daily care (she does not qualify for this assistance), and chef services/meals (prepared for her and caregiver husband who is Diabetic). She will also need as many voice-activated tools as possible inside her home.

Debbie is a wonderful, loving wife and mother of 2 great kids. Her husband Franklin (Frank) has been an amazing caregiver (while dealing with his own ailment), but the responsibility has grown beyond his control. This ongoing battle has drained Frank and Debbie both emotionally and financially. Debbie is in the battle of her life right now, and we are walking with her through this fight, and helping with the mounting medical challenges they face daily.

We remain prayerful and hopeful that she will beat the odds, and grateful for each day we are given to be with such an amazing person!

Thank you in advance for your generous donations and support. Please donate whatever you can, and please help us spread the word to individuals and potential business donors. Most importantly, thank you for your prayers. We do believe in miracles and we pray for one each day.

God bless each and every one of you!
