After seeing Melody on adopt-a-pet.com, we knew we had to rescue her as soon as we could to save her from the pneumonia she had come down with. They wouldn't allow her to be transported until she was 100% better, so we took matters into our own hands and took the 32 hour drive roundtrip to Tennessee to rescue her when she was getting back on her feet. We drove straight through the night, taking turns driving and sleeping so we could get to her as soon as we could. For the past 2 1/2 months we have been bringing her to great vets in the North Shore area, getting consistent xrays, ultrasounds, and medications to help her heal and recover. She was making a great turn around and was filled with life. She is truly part of our family. With financial assistance from family and loved ones, we have been able to give her the care she needs to get better. This past Sunday, Melody became ill and regressed rapidly. We were told to bring her to Angell Animal Hospital in Boston to give her the 24 hour care she needed to help her with her pneumonia. She has been there for a few days now and we are completely heartbroken. They found a lot of bacteria built up in her lungs, and if the medication she is on now doesn't respond well with her, she will need to undergo invasive and risky surgery to remove this dangerous fungus from her lungs. The surgery could cost upwards of $8,000, and as students neither my boyfriend or I can afford a surgery of that cost. The visit she is undergoing now has already cost $3,000, and we are running out of options for our baby. Please please please help us get our puppy back to better health. I have called family, friends, teachers, and talked with strangers to send Melody positive energy and love. We are staying positive but knowing that we cannot afford the care that she desperately needs hurts me everyday. I would do anything for this dog, she truly means the world to us.
