A pet owner who loves her dog needs help to pay for tests...

When I saw Mindy's picture on craigslist in May 09 I knew she was the dog for me. I adopted her from a rescue and the day I met her I took her home. She acted like she had been here her whole life and came with me everywhere, even to work. She is by far the best dog I have ever had and I adore her.

On Nov. 6, 2009 I woke up at 7am and my bed was shaking...Mindy was having a seizure. I was terrified and rushed her to the ER vet and she had 2 more on the way. They stopped the seizures, gave her medication and 12 hours later I brought her home. She was a bit dopey the first few days from the medication but before you knew it she was back to her old self. The seizures were being fairly well controlled with medication but she would have one every few months.

On Sept. 5, 2010 Mindy had a seizure around 12:30pm and by 1pm she had had 6. I rushed her to the ER vet where they tried to stop them with valium and large doses of her medication. It slowed them down a bit but she still had a few more with the last ones being at 1am for a total of 12 that day. I brought her home on Sept. 6th and she was fine until the 7th when she had 4 more between 12:30-1:15pm. I rushed her to the closest vet where they gave her more valium, tripled her medication and added another medication. They also drew blood to see how her organs were doing and sent me home with valium just in case. She ended up having 6 more seizures that evening that thankfully were stopped with the valium. That evening I just held her while she was seizing, cried, and prayed. I told myself then that if she was still seizing the next day I was going to have to put her down. She has been seizure free since that night.

She was seen by a neurologist who recommended a chest x-ray, more blood work and an ultrasound. She ended up having the x-ray a week later when she couldn't breathe and I brought her to the ER vet. The x-ray showed her liver was very enlarged but she had no fluid build up in her belly. She was put on diuretics and I brought her home. I started feeding her a special diet and gave her the diuretics and a few days later, thanks to a very generous person, she had the ultrasound done. They couldn't find anything wrong with her except for the left side of her heart is slightly smaller than the right side. The vet said this could just be from the diuretic since she doesn't have any symptoms of heart problems.

She needs to have this blood work done now more than ever. That is the only way to hopefully get an answer and start her on the right treatment. She is still on the special diet, diuretics, supplements and her seizure meds and is doing better but something has to be found out soon. It is going to cost almost $500 for her tests and medication. I know she wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the kindness of total strangers who have helped this far and I am forever grateful for that.

I am not a 501 or non-profit, I am just a pet owner who loves their dog and would do anything for her. I sit and cry sometimes because I am so angry that this happened to her and there isn't anything I can do about it. I am asking for donations of $1.00. I have vet bills, estimates, and anything else you could possibly want to prove that this is true.

It has been 6 weeks now since everything went to hell and the stress is getting to be too much. The week before this all started I had to have my sewer line repaired and that took all my money and savings. I am now playing catch up on all my bills and have even had my gas disconnected so I could bring her to the ER vet this last time. I don't have any other options right now....
