Zac Cook's family and friends are uniting to raise money for his medical and living expenses durng his expected year or more long recovery.

On Sunday, October 14, Zac was walking to a skateboard park with his friend near his home in Wylie, Texas. Zac was texting and did not notice as the passenger side door of a pickup truck driving by flew open and almost hit him. Zac's friend had pulled him out of the way just in time. Neither Zac nor his friend were prepared for what happened next. The truck stopped and reversed rapidly as Zac continued to text. Suddenly, as the truck drew up to them, the driver cut his wheels sharply toward Zac and his friend. The truck struck Zac with the tailgate crashing into the left side of his head. The impact knocked Zac out of his shoes and launched him twenty feet. Thankfully, Zac's head landed in thick "peanut butter-like" mud. Zac had a seizure and stopped breathing shortly thereafter. The Wylie Fire Department responded within three minutes and entubated him at the scene, saving his life. Zac had suffered a traumatic brain injury. At Children's Hospital in Dallas Zac's mother, Dawn, was told not to expect him to survive. Dawn was also told if Zac did survive he would likely loose his ability to reason or speak and be paralysed, as well. The trauma doctors successfully performed emergency brain surgery to stop the bleeding and relieve the pressure. Initially, it was thought he would be in ICU for at least two weeks. In less than a week Zac was moved to a regular hospital room and ten days after his injury he has been transferred to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth for intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Zac is able to speak, although he has confusion and sometimes seems a younger version of himself to those who know and love him. Zac has also suffered significant memory loss. As the neurologists predicted, Zac has severe but not total paralysis on his right side. As each day goes by, Zac's sweet personality continues to come through...he entertains everyone who comes into his room and cracks us all up several times a day. We have seen miracle after miracle as God has carried Zac and his family through this ordeal up to this point. We are excited and expectant of Zac's complete healing. God is truly with Zac and we believe in and look forward to his full recovery. We appreciate everyone's prayers and we ask for continued prayer. We thank you in advance for any material support you can offer to help support Zac and his family as we face the challenges of the coming year. Told for Zac by Dawn Traczyk, Mom Adele Espinoza, Sissy Scott and Cathy Griffith, Poppi and Mimi...
