This is the "Angeles Para Margie" Kidney Transplant Fund. The funds will be used for medical related expenses not covered by insurance.

“Bad things do happen in life; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself.” Quote by Walter Anderson

My name is Margie Matos; I am a Registered Nurse at a neighborhood hospital in Chicago that provides emergency medical care to the residents of Humboldt Park, West Town, East Village, Wicker Park and Bucktown communities for the past 25 years. I was raised by a single parent in an underprivileged household in Humboldt Park; many doubted I would ever fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a Nurse. It was through my Mother’s love, prayers, sacrifices and guidance that I made it!

When I chose the career to be an ER Nurse, I knew that high stress would be a vital part of my job. But, I was determined and passionate about Nursing and knew that this would be the cross I had to bare if I wanted to make a difference as a Nurse. Like with any job there are days you get frustrated, aggravated, and pushed to the limit and you give up or change careers – I stuck it out! As a Nurse, you walk through the doors each day wondering “whose life will I save tonight,” or sometimes cry silently because you can't help save them all, and then a patient waiting for you holds your hand and says “thank you” or a family says “thank you” and hugs you and prays for you because you helped save their loved one. It’s moments like these that make you feel the warmth; pride and gratitude of being a Nurse grow in your heart.

Now I have come to a crossroad and was recently diagnosed with end stage kidney failure. The good news is - through the medical miracle of a kidney transplant I will get my second chance at life.

Jesus gave His life to prove how very valuable we are to him. God blessed me with three beautiful daughters and my 1st Grandchild, and it is by his merciful grace and their help I will be able to enjoy the quality of life I once had.

My oldest daughter Michelle tested to be my organ donor back in November - she was a match. However, doctors advised her that donating would be risky and not beneficial to her health due to her own medical history. My second daughter Stephanie also tested. She passed the first series of tests, and is waiting on the last and final test to be able to donate. Now, by the divine grace of God, in her most remarkable display of unconditional love for her mother she will bless me with the gift of hope by donating her Kidney to sustain my life – what a remarkable human miracle to be able to pay it forward!
- I love you Stephanie, Mom

God promises to provide for us in times of sorrow, hardship, weakness, and fear. Standing on His promises during adversity gives us the support we need until our troubles pass; I will trust in him to see me through this situation!

- Stephanie
My mother is a beautiful, loving, and caring, compassionate woman; a daughter, a niece, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a wife and a grandmother, and a friend who has made an impact in the lives of many she has served in her community with her God given talent as an ER Nurse at a local community hospital.

She gives of herself and considers her own desires last. Throughout her Nursing career she has exemplified human dignity, compassion, dedication, integrity, leadership and excellence to all who walked through the doors of her place of work in the same community she grew up in. Now, through a reversal of circumstances, she needs you to help raise funds to help pay for her Kidney Transplant medical expenses.

Please consider being one of her angels by making a donation to “Angeles Para Margie.”
