This is the Melissa Feuerbach PSD Fund. All funds raised here will be used in the costs of uniting Melissa with a Psychiatric Service Dog.

Many are aware of how much of a life-saver a service dog can be for a person in need. Few are aware of the impact a psychiatric service dog can make to those with psychiatric disabilities.

My name is Melissa Feuerbach. I am 25 years old. I have been in and out of psychiatric wards thirteen times over the span of six years. This is not how I dreamed my life would be. I finished two years of university at BYU, then I was hospitalized and tried many medications and Electro-Convulsive Therapy. I have not been able to finish my degree since.

I have recently learned of Assistance Dogs of the West and their amazing gift of training and placing psychiatric service dogs with those in need. Applying for this program is no easy feat. Besides extensive paperwork, in-person meetings are required even before you are placed on a waiting list that can take up to two years. The hardest part of this process is the $5,000 dollar fee for training and the dog. As I am unable to work currently, I am saving up every spare penny I have.

A psychiatric service dog can help me in so many ways. Besides the miraculous dog-owner bond capable of such a connection, such a dog can help with symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social phobia, and post traumatic stress disorder, all of which I have been diagnosed with and currently struggle with.

Any and all help offered towards my goal would mean so much to me. It would mean a different life for me, a better life.

If you have any questions, please, feel free to email me at Thank you.
