In 2011 Randy was diagnosed with a rare tracheal cancer . To date, he has had 15 surgeries with the cancer returning each time.

The family of Randy Johnson are uniting to raise money to help with his battle of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Trachea. In November 2010, Randy had come down with what seemed as a flu. After many trip to see specialists he was misdiagnosed with asthma and COPD. Months later, he still wasn't feeling better and was getting worse. He could not work in his profession as an electrician because he could not breathe. In May 2011, he had a CAT scan and we finally had our answer. Cancer. Oncologists wouldn't come up with a treatment plan for Randy because with his rare type of cancer, there is none.
It was disheartening to continue to hear there weren't any answers and nothing could really be done to ensure Randy would live more that 18 months. It's hard to watch someone you love face a disease where there is no known cure. His only relief was laser surgeries to open his airway; to date, he has had 15 of them. Laser surgeries can no longer be performed because of the amount of scar tissue that is being created from them. He has just begun radiation treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering in an effort to keep the cancer growing and spreading. Time is running out for Randy because of the rate the cancer continues to come back.
The light at the end of the tunnel is that we have found a life saving option for Randy and that is a tracheal transplant, which would be performed by Dr. Paolo Maccharini and  the help of Alex Roberts from Regenerate a life to help us navigate through all the particulars of putting this together. Our greatest hurdle is the transplant is NOT covered by his health insurance. We are asking for your help to raise money for Randy's surgery. Randy just turned 42 in June and has so much more life to live. He has a family that needs him and a stepsons that look up to him and love him.  Any amount would be appreciated to help Randy with his battle.
