Please make a small donation to help Pitty.

I have very sad news to report. Pitty had to be put down. The volunteers brought him to the vet on Saturday and he was kept overnight. They did x-rays, a sonogram, and ran blood tests. Pitty had advanced canine distemper combined with his injuries and severe malnutrition. The vet is someone I know and respect highly. I know that he is the kind of person that if there was something else to be done he would do everything he could.

For those of you who generously donated money I will still be giving it to the shelter which could definitely use the help.

It's the only shelter in the city and like most Argentine cities, Madryn is full of stray dogs. They work entirely with volunteer labor and donated money so this will go a very long way to helping them. They have over 160 dogs in the shelter and more in foster homes. Each dog needs food and monthly tick and flea prevention. Plus medical expenses. All 160 some pups are in good health and well loved by the volunteers. They don't live in kennels but in large pens some alone or with a buddy depending on their disposition.  All the dogs are spayed or neutered and they organize campaigns of free spay/neutering services for the city. All on donations. It's a great place that does everything they can for dogs that normally wouldn't have much of a chance.

Thank you all so much for your response, your good vibes and your donations. When I go next week I'll snap some shots of the other pups and post them here. For Unleash folks, there's one that reminds me so much of Mama Phoenix!!

Again, thank you all so much and even though we couldn't help Pitty this money will go to help the next dog like him. Here they have a saying that working in animal rescue, be it domestic or wild animals, there are usually more tears than success stories but just one success story makes you forget all the tears. So here's to hoping, right?
