Steven Torres Handicapped Van Fund
This is the Steven Torres Handicapped Van Fund. Please show your support! He REALLY, really needs this!!
My sons name is Steven Torres. Steven was born with cerebral palsy. He was born a preemie and had to undergo two transfusions at birth. He's overcome many hospital stays. He also underwent hip surgery. He is now 13 years old , with special needs and severe physical disabilities. His disabilities grossly impair any kind of ambulation and most movements. He requires specialized wheelchair and other ambulatory equipment for assistance. He also requires total assistance with all activities of daily living, including inability to use the bathroom, dress or feed himself.
When Steven was small, we could put him in his car seat and with difficulty get his wheelchair into our old minivan. We have been positioning him in a car seat but this causes him pain and discomfort. Not only does he not fit into car seat, but also the fact that I cannot continue to lift him and his wheelchair into the van. Steven can hardly go anywhere with the family because of the excessive pain and discomfort he experiences traveling in the family van. For his safety and my back, also best positioning he really must travel in his custom wheelchair. And for this we need a Wheelchair Accessible Van.
Steven is OUR SWEETIE PIE who absolutely loves his road trips with his family. In the summer he enjoys going everywhere. He enjoys visiting water parks, circus, zoos, anything to go on road trips! Steven cannot speak, but even so is a very happy child. I have always tried to treat him as I did my other children. So even though he is not verbal, I know he understands so much! He gets very upset when he is left behind, which is now very often the case because we haven't been able to afford the Accessible Van. I Believe In QUALITY OF LIFE.
There is an urgent need for the acquisition of a new wheelchair accessible van so he will be more safely positioned and will not endure pain while traveling. Let alone the fact that van is starting to show its age. The price of this project has proven very astronomical for the family. Following months of shopping around, the average price was about $40,000. But unfortunately we do not have this money. And all appeals for government assistance have failed because of the present economy. I am a Veteran of US Army. I served my country for close to 13 yrs. I was discharged an E-5/Sgt. I served overseas. I have been a stay at home mom to care for my son who needs 24 hour care.
We are therefore making this appeal to kindhearted individuals like you, who would be kind enough to donate any amount of money to this special fund in order to make Steven's dream come true! So that once again our son can ride along with his family in a van without fear of pain or discomfort.
Please give as you feel prompted in your generous heart. Your generosity would be highly appreciated. Much Love and Gratitude.
