The Help Henry Fund is an effort to raise money for Henry's veterinary bills and expenses after he became a hit and run victim.

On Thursday, July 14, 2011, Henry mysteriously escaped from the home where he was staying while his owners were out of town. He became the victim of a hit and run accident - as whoever was driving the car that hit Henry did not stop, and did not seek help for him.

Luckily Henry was found by a neighbor and was able to be rushed into the emergency veterinary clinic. He was in shock and suffering from bruised lungs, a crushed back foot, and serious internal bleeding. The vets were able to get him stabalized and set about trying to determine how serious his internal injuries were.

Over the course of the next few days, Henry's breathing became so labored that he needed to be put on oxygen. Fluid was building up in the area around his lungs and the vets decided that surgery was the only option to try to save Henry's life.

When they openend Henry up they found that a major artery had been cut and was causing the internal bleeding - however, miraculously Henry's liver had rested up against it in such a way that it prevented Henry from completely bleeding out. This was an amazing and unbelievable thing - Henry should have died from his injuries, however the placement of his liver against the artery kept him alive. Vets repaired the damage and Henry put up a good fight, but unfortunately he passed away early in the morning on July 22, 2011. This brave and wonderful little Sheltie will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was smart, loving, and such a good boy.

Henry's hospital stay, medical care and treatment have been an amazing blessing, and we are so thankful to the vets, vet techs, and other professionals who tried to save his life. His care and treatment have also resulted in astronomical veterinary bills that are overwhelming to his family. If you can donate any amount to help offset his medical bills, it would be such a gift to Henry and his family. 100% of all funds raised will be given to Henry's owners, Robert Carnahan and William Rice, to be used for Henry's medical bills.
