Charlie has nasal cancer. He needs radiation treatments at Colorado State University. The cost of the treatment is $6000. Please help!

My Charlie Barley Boy Dog of Love Extraordinaire has nasal cancer. He needs treatment ASAP, this week or next.

It started with a runny nose and sneezing that didn't respond to antibiotics. A few days later, his mucous was tinged with blood. We did a rhinoscopy and they took biopsies which turned out to be adenocarcinoma, a fast growing cancer in his nose. The veterinarian said he had 3-7 months to live, and time is running out.

I believe Charlie knows he has cancer, because a few years ago, Charlie began licking Zia's side in one particular spot. (Zia was a shepherd mix who came to live with us when he was nine years old). Months after Charlie started licking him, we discovered Zia had cancer inside his body, at that spot. Zia's cancer wasn't treatable, but Charlies is, and with successful results for an average of 16 months. (That's 10 years in dog time!)

But right now, Charlie's breathing is becoming more and more obstructed and although he is happy and alert during the day, nights are a struggle. Dogs sleep with their mouth closed and can't naturally hold it open. So all night I hear wheezing, gagging and finally panting when he wakes up without enough air. Radiation will begin to reduce the tumor within days and will improve his breathing at night.

He needs a CT scan and radiation treatments at Colorado State University. The total cost of the treatment is approximately $6,000.

I will be driving him there from Albuquerque and we would need to stay about a week for him to receive the full treatment.

It is hard to see Charlie going through this as he is otherwise very healthy.

Thank you for your help and good thoughts. Charlie is a special boy dog, an angel (albeit, one who gets into things) right here on earth.

Again, Thank you from all of Charlie's family: dogs, cats and humans.
