3rd week out

Posted by Cindy Lott on February 29th, 2016

Dear family and friends, Today begins the 3rd week out from surgery and I must say this one took its toll on me. The surgery itself lasted between 5-6 hours which is a stressor in itself. The 1st surgeon, a maxiofacial specialist, cut my bottom gum from one end to the other, laid back the gum and shaved the entire bone to aid in the foundation for the screws to be placed he was inserting. Once that was complete my angel surgeon came behind him to remove 3 lesions. After recovering for several hours I was allowed to go home. The 1st 5 days were living hell. On a pain scale of 1-10 my pain was a 20! That is when a complication occurred. On the 6th day post op I began loosing stitches from my bone and gum. We were instructed to return to the Drs office. On arrival, still in pain from surgery, he had to go back in using a local only, to restitch area where bone was exposed. That is when I was certain I couldn't take anymore. Returning home was a nightmare. I couldn't talk, nor could I eat anything that required chewing and the pain was off the chart! Had it not been for a 2 good friends, one provided recipes and the other puréed various foods and made shakes so that I could drink my meals! If not for them I would have probably thrown in the towel. Yet everyone's prayers and well wishes kept me going. Today I'm up and laughingly know my name and am able to eat very soft foods, mainly soups. God is good! I've finally turned the corner and good knews is that the lesions removed all came back free and clear of cancer!!!! YAY Along road ahead but I'll make it. Next step is oncologist to begin chemo once these areas have healed. Not looking forward to it but it is what it is and I still have fight left in me according to my children. As mentioned in my previous post financial pressure is on. I will have to pay $2800.00 per 30 days for this miracle chemo. Once again I am forever grateful for the many prayers , well wishes and contributions which have most definitely aided in my fight. Please continue as the weeks and months ahead will be extremely challenging. I will keep you updated as I can and will be reading your post routinely which motivates me to continue the fight! Much love and many blessings! ❤️🙏🏻 Cindy
