The family and friends of Ryan Kreinik are uniting to raise money for expenses not covered by insurance. Please show your support!
Ryan has always been a source of joy to his family and friends. A beautiful young man with a contagious laugh, a dry sense of humor, and the brightest blue eyes. Being the only boy in a house full of women he grew up to be very protective and always watched over his loved ones, especially his sisters and nephew. He held a junior black belt by the age of 14 and spent most of his after school time at the karate studio. By 16 he was learning carpentry with his dad. Ryan was a very hard worker and becoming a skilled carpenter. He had his whole life ahead of him and we saw great things for his future.
In Dec. 2011 at the age of 19 Ryan accidentally overdosed at a friends house. EMT's were called but Ryan was barely breathing. Doctors frantically worked on him in the emergency room. He went into cardiac arrest and was revived but his heart had suffered a major trauma. He was on a ventilator and needed to have a feeding tube placed. Days later we learned that Ryan had sustained a brain injury due to lack of oxygen and the neurologist did not think it would be possible for him to ever be removed from the vent or be able to eat food by mouth. Even in those first weeks Ryan proved to be a fighter. His heart made a full recovery and several weeks after that he was removed from the vent, never to return. He has been our superhero, making progress that doctors said he could never make.
There are many therapies available that insurance does not cover. One of the therapies we have been able to try was Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Ryan completed 40 sessions in October 2012 with some outstanding results. He now eats all his meals by mouth and tries very hard to vocalize. Sadly, we cannot afford to continue the only therapy that seems to produce results. It is our greatest wish to restart Oxygen Therapy as soon as possible, but to make this happen we will need help. With the wonderful assistance of Allyson from New Beginnings Rehab, Hyperbaric Medical Solutions will be donating 10 free sessions for every 10 we can pay for. So once again, we are reaching out to family and friends and anyone you can share this site with, to help make our dreams for Ryan become a reality.
On behalf of our son, we would like to thank everyone for all your support, love, prayers, and generosity. It has been a long challenging journey that is far from over and your presence has helped to lighten the load. We all have great faith that Ryan will continue to progress until he is back on his feet and thanking everyone personally.
