Please "Give Forward" so the help we received will be available for others to experience the healing and inspiring World Burn Congress.

Our lives will be forever changed by the experience of the World Burn Congress, an annual international event that brings together more than 800 burn survivors, their families, care givers, burn care professionals and firefighters. We were encouraged to share our stories, and received support and knowledge of burn recovery. For many, it was the first opportunity to meet and share with others who have experienced a burn trauma.

With the help of the Maricopa Health Foundation and generous donations from Nadine and Bobby Durham, Ruth Rimmer, PhD, Brewer Law Firm, and Matthew Cunningham, PC, we were able to attend the World Burn Congress this year. Your donations help burn survivors attend the WBC and share their inspirational stories of survival, courage and personal growth.

LINDA SCHMIDT

My accident happened in Northern Arizona at my family's cabin in November 1994 leaving me burned over 40% of my body.  I was treated at the AZ Burn Center for one month, then for one year of follow-up care. I was off work for a total of 8 months. I was fortunate to have family and friends to help me through this ordeal. I thank them sincerely.

I've been to a few World Burn Congress events and they were so comforting and helpful to me. I wanted to share my experiences and what I learned to help me to get on with my life and not be ashamed with scars and stares from the public. I have taken other burn survivors with me to the Congress and I try to encourage them... pretty soon, it gets better. I participate in a burn survivor support group that has really helped me move on in my life. I also volunteer at the Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center.

I greatly appreciate your support in this very important effort, and I am grateful for the opportunity to introduce other burn survivors to the encouraging atmosphere of the World Burn Congress.

Most sincerely, Linda Schmidt

Here are some quotes from the 2011 World Burn Congress:

"My daughter...has had such a wonderful time meeting new friends, not only her age, but of all ages. The WBC has literally given her new hope - a refreshing lease on life. Thank you for this opportunity and for this life-changing experience."

- Family of a Burn Survivor

"Gathering with so many people of similar injuries, similar problems, gave me a boost like no other...This injury can happen not only to the burn survivor, but also to those surrounding him. We are now prepared to listen, to tell our story, and to support all injured from burns."

- Firefighter and Burn Survivor

"My family just grew...This fellowship of burn survivors and their families is a source of inspiration greater than I have eer been able to imagine. To know that I am really not alone and that there are people who care, makes a big difference. Just wish I had this way earlier. It's never too late!"
