The family of Scott Bartelmay are uniting to raise money to help with medical expenses from having Pancreatic cancer. Please Give :)

In August of 2011 our dad, Scott Bartelmay, went to Prompt Care with a pain in his abdomen. The doctor said it was probably diverticulitis but sent him to the emergency room to run the tests they needed in order to make sure. After doing a CT scan , what they found instead of diverticulitis was a softball sized tumor on his pancreas. That is a very sensitive area for surgeons to go into but they scheduled the surgery for a couple of weeks later. They had to remove about sixty percent of his pancreas as well as his spleen along with the tumor. After testing for cancer they found that the tumor was malignant and he'd had a very rare form of pancreatic cancer. He would need to undergo either chemotherapy or radiation to make sure the cancer was gone and would not come back. The doctors here in Peoria felt that it was important for dad to go to Ann Arbor, Michigan to see the head of the Pancreatic Cancer Center. Although the doctors and the specialist had inteded for him to stay in Ann Arbor and take his treatments there, he talked them into sending the instructions for the treatments to Peoria so that he could be with his family and continue to work. The specialist mapped out a six week treatment of radiation. For those six weeks he had to have treatments five days a week. Monday through Friday he would go to work as usual, leave later in the morning for a radiation treatment, and go straight back to work. He did not miss a single day of work during his treatments. It was a miracle that he survived that rare form of pancreatic cancer and we are all so thankful that he did. In the time since his surgery he has walked both of us down the aisle on our wedding days. But he is still dealing with the aftermath that inevitably comes from having cancer. For example, there are certain side effects from the radiation, like getting tired very easily. And then there are all of the medical bills that have been piling up over the last year. Health insurance only covered so much. He makes regular payments, giving as much as he can but the weekly calls from bill collectors remind him that it's not enough. He patiently tells them that he didn't plan for cancer. None of us imagined such a thing would happen to him. We can't change the fact that it did, no matter how much we wish we could. But we can at least help him move forward with his life by raising the money he needs to pay his medical bills. Thank you for your support! Hilary and Brandon Vissering Chelsea and Eric Williams
