This is the Spencer Barton Fund. The funds raised will be used for Spencer's medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

Team Spencer

Spencer is a 15 year old boy who is a freshman at North High School in Davenport, IA.

In July of 2011 Spencer started to have weakness and pain in his legs. His doctor gave him crutches to help him walk and keep the pressure off of his legs. Within a month, Spencer was unable to walk and was confined to a wheelchair with extreme pain and weakness in the legs. Not knowing what was wrong, Spencer and his family were seeing doctor after doctor trying to get an accurate diagnosis. Finally, after seeing 42 doctors and health care professionals, he was given a correct diagnosis at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Acute Musculoskeletal Pain (AMP) also known as Neurovascular Dystrophy (RND). Spencer is at the extreme end of the continuum and is no longer able to stand or walk. The only treatment for AMP is intense physical and occupational therapy.

Spencer will be traveling to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for either weeks or months for his treatment. He will be working from 8- 5 Monday through Friday and have at home therapy nights and weekends.

Since Spencer's treatment is outpatient, insurance will not cover housing, meals and transportation to and from the hospital. That is why we are asking for your help to raise money for Spencer and his family. They will be away from family, friends, school, church, and their support system. They should not have to worry about the extra costs of hotel, car and food.

Please support a good cause and help out this incredible boy and his family.
