Please join us as we continue Keira's fight! We cannot do this without you, and thank you greatly for all your continued support! God Bless!

With all the prayers, donations and messages of support we received during the last 9 months, Keira came home.  Your support gave us the encouragement to fight for Keira, and gave us the determination to get what Keira needed in order to come home.  For that, we thank you.  We never would have gotten through all this, coupled in with the fact that we lost our angel Ava during this time period, to the same disease Keira now has.  Ava would want us to continue the fight! Her mom and dad have fought extremely hard to get her where she is today: at home with her family. She is doing very well, and is surprising a lot of people. With your help, Keira and her family won the first battle in what promises to be a long and drawn out war against Walker Warburg Syndrome and Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (CMD). Keira and her family are beginning a new battle, one which they hope will end with a cure or treatment for Walker Warburg and the other forms of CMD. They know they can’t win this battle alone, and are asking for your help. There will be a number of fundraisers planned in the future for Keira and also for CMD, but if you are interested in donating now, you certainly can do so here. The money raised will go to cover medications, equipment, misc supplies needed to keep our Keira comfortable and healthy. If we reach 50% or more of our goal, we will donate 50 percent of what raise to CURE CMD, an organization started by parents and family members of those suffering from the various forms of CMD.   What is CMD? CMD is a group of diseases causing muscle weakness at birth. Several defined genetic mutations cause muscles to break down faster than they can repair or grow. A child with CMD may have various neurological or physical impairments. Some children never gain the ability to walk, while others lose the ability as they grow older. Symptoms of CMD: Some forms of CMD, like Walker Warburg, involve spinal curvature, respiratory insufficiency, learning disabilities, eye defects and seizures. The progression of the disease varies depending on the type and severity. Most are slow progressing, and often shorten life span. These diseases are sometimes inherited through both parents, but can also be inherited from one parent. They can also occur spontaneously because of a newly developed genetic mutation.   Right now, the treatment for Walker Warburg and many of the other CMDs are purely supportive.  With future research, there is hope that a definitive treatment can be found which will counteract the effects of this disease, but we can't get there without your help.  Please, if you are able, consider donatintg to Keira's new battle, so that we may bring comfort to her, but also to help support future research.
