We are raising funds to supply 50 youth at Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp with books about Great Peacemakers to be taught this summer.

YEA Camps engage young leaders in transforming the world and having fun doing it. Held in Santa Cruz, CA and Portland, OR, the camp is for youth ages 11-16 who want to make a difference in the world. In the camp, young people choose a social issue important to them, develop an action plan to address the issue, and receive mentorship as they go out and implement their plan.

The camp director would love to use the book Great Peacemakers in this summer’s camp to help youth learn about leaders who went before them in making a difference and who can inspire them to carry the torch for their generation.

The camp needs approximately 50 books and, as a small not-for-profit organization, needs help in buying them. The authors are willing to sell the books to the camp for less than half price, just $10 each and totaling $500. Still, the camp needs help to come up with that amount before the first session starts on July 25th. We wonder if you might like to help give these caring young people the opportunity to learn about the important issues and inspiring leaders introduced in the book.

“Powerful, well researched and, above all, timely, Great Peacemakers should be required reading for the youth of the world.”
—Dr. Oscar Arias, Nobel Peace Prize recipient and former president of Costa Rica

“School counselors, teachers, and other educators will find this book to be invaluable for helping the youth of today become the responsible adults of tomorrow.”
—Kwok-Sze Wong, executive director, American School Counselor Association

Winner of more than thirty awards, Great Peacemakers is endorsed by three presidents and three Nobel Peace Prize winners. This concise and easy-to-read book tells the inspiring true life stories of twenty great peacemakers from around the world—from a Vietnamese monk to a Brazilian musician, from a Swedish children’s author to an Iranian-American architect.

Highly adaptable, Great Peacemakers is being used in programs from middle school through graduate school, introducing students to a variety of positive role models, important social issues, and real-life examples of nonviolent conflict resolution. Many educators are reporting concrete positive behavior changes in students studying the book. In a recent case study, a school in Pennsylvania used the book as school-wide reading with approximately 1100 students and staff. Afterward, 27 educators who taught the book were surveyed. 100% said they would recommend Great Peacemakers to other educators.

A free sample chapter from the book is available at Also available at that website is the book's free downloadable study guide. With lesson plans, worksheets, rubrics, and more, the study guide is designed to help educators use the book to enhance existing courses or create new ones.

You can help us get this book and the inspiring true life stories of these great peacemakers into the hands of more young people today. Please donate now. As IS (International School) magazine said about the book, "Such powerful stories can change lives."
