Friends and transgender allies please unite to help Christine McClinton pay for Gender Reassignment Surgery.

I am trying to raise funds for my gender reassignment surgery. With your help and my savings, I hope to travel to Thailand next year to have my surgery.

Hi. I'm Christine Marie McClinton and I am seeking contributions for my gender reassignment surgery fund. I have worked for many years trying to save enough money for this expensive surgery but have never earned a high enough wage to reach my goal. At age 57 I only have a few more years before I'll be in a high risk category for this surgery. Ever since I was 8 years old, I have wanted to change my body to match my sense of myself as female. It's been a difficult struggle as family members and friends have been against the change. My father, mother, one sister and my only brother have passed on and I still have five sisters. Unfortunately, not a one of them can understand or support me in this process of change. Each step I take toward my goal has also been a step away from them. I have often felt totally alone in my struggle. Four years ago I decided to move across town to find the support of a therapist and the LBGT community. This has given me the hope to continue on. I began taking hormones elven years ago and changed my name six years ago. The gender reassignment surgery is the next big, expensive step! In addition to my savings, I will need approximately $15,000. My plan is to have the surgery done by one of the best GRS surgeons in Thailand where the costs are much less expensive than in the USA.

If I am not able to raise enough money for the surgery, I will use any smaller amount to fund voice feminization therapy and to continue with facial electrolysis.

I want to let you know about my involvement in the LGBTQ community.  For more that a year I have been volunteering at Center on Halsted, Chicago's premier social services agency serving LGBTQ people.  Two days a week I volunteer to serve lunches to seniors in the Center's SAGE Program.  And one afternoon I week, I serve as a mentor in the Trans Youth program.  I have also volunteered my time helping Equality Illinois with their fundraisers.  I believe we need to help each other as much as we can.

Thank you so much for reading my story and helping with any contribution big or small. If you can't help financially, feel free to provide emotional support by contacting me at
