Funds needed for a kidney transplant, airfare, boarding pets, time off work, etc. PLEASE HELP and if possible share this link.

Carla Hart is raising money to travel to California from Hawaii to donate a kidney to a lifelong friend, Marina Barth.

We have already raised $760 to help with the costs of this kidney transplant for Marina. Thank you so much to our first 7 contributors, Andrea Elliott, Susan Joseph, Steve Read, Richmond Arquette, Danny Zackery, Ida Unger and Suzanne O'Shea. It is because of you that we are 15% of the way to our goal and have the necessary funds for the first flight to L.A.

Since Give Forward takes 10 days to process funds Marina and I decided to close the first fundraising page in order to secure those funds for immediate access when we need to purchase the first flight and for any expenses Marina may have during this time period.

Marina had kidney failure from polycystic kidney disease with no warning whatsoever. A visit to the doctor led to emergency hospitalization which changed her life completely in an instant. She remained in the hospital for over 3 weeks where she went through numerous surgeries and procedures to prepare her for dialysis. She continues with dialysis 3 times a week while waiting for kidney transplant surgery.

She had another surgery to move the location of her temporary catheter which required 3 more days in the hospital. She will have surgery again on July 18th to create a fistula in her arm.

Marina and I met at Area E Alternative School in L.A. CA when I was 12 & she was 13. We became instant lifelong friends with a deep connection. She is my soul sister. Although we have often lived far apart our bond remained strong as we helped each other climb over the mountains of life. I knew instantly I would give Marina a kidney. I just didn't know how I would get to L.A. to do it. That is why we set up this fundraising page. View the pictures for a glimpse of a 38 year friendship!

We have both undergone numerous doctor visits and will continue these evaluations & procedures during the next couple months. I will fly to L.A. twice, once for a few days and 2 months later for 3 weeks to have the transplant surgery.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far. Your help has eased our worries so much and gives us hope that we can and will raise the necessary funds to pay for the expenses involved to make this transplant happen. Meanwhile, we request your prayers. Also, please help by sharing this fundraising page with your friends and family. Lastly, cherish every moment and everyone you love because you never know when life will change in an instant.

Mahalo nui loa, means thank you very much in Hawaiian.
God Bless You.
Aloha, Carla
