Family of 27 yr old Jocelyn Rodearmel is raising funds for treatment of stage IV metastatic, triple negative, genetic breast cancer.

MEET MY DAUGHTER JOCELYN RODEARMEL Jocelyn is a 27 year old breast cancer patient living in the town of Hamilton,VA. In November 2011, at the tender age of 26, Jocelyn was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic, triple negative breast cancer. Genetic testing results show that she has the BRCA 1 gene mutation and that her type of breast cancer is genetic and uncommon. At the time of diagnosis, the breast cancer had already spread to the liver. In April 2012, Jocelyn had a double mastectomy which was very complicated, and as a result, she is not able to get breast reconstruction. The cancer has stopped responding to chemotherapy and the cancer continues to spread. The most recent CT/PET scan was at the end of June and showed that the breast cancer has worsened in the liver (there are now 6 cancerous lesions), and is now in the sternum (the breastbone). Her oncologist has given her a prognosis of "at most 2 years" and has referred her to a 2 year, Phase I clinical trial. We have recently learned that due to her type of genetic cancer, the best treatment option for her situation is very expensive gene targeted therapies. These would help extend her life and provide good quality of life. At this point, there is still hope that we can get the cancer under control before it progresses so much that it becomes too late. The genomic testing, bloodwork and other lab work to determine exactly what personalized treatment she needs to help fight her cancer requires $13,500. The estimated monthly costs for treatment alone will be $35,000 a month. While this treatment is expensive, how do we place a value on a 27 yr old young woman’s life?! Jocelyn has shown such courage and positivity through this struggle. She is an exceptional young woman! She is growing and learning so much through this experience. Her faith in God and her resolve to continue fighting is strong. The ups and downs of this disease and treatment have at times been very overwhelming. It has been physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting. Some of the disappointments and emotions encountered are more than can be described. And, through it all, she expresses concern for those around her and their comfort. Jocelyn and her family have exhausted all available funds because of the medical costs. Although they have received some financial assistance from caring and helpful cancer organizations, Jocelyn’s existing medical bills are more than she has funds to cover. She worries about being a burden and wants to do her part to help with the financial burden of treating this disease. Jocelyn is single, graduated from BYU-Idaho in 2010 with an Animal Science degree, and loves animals. I call her a “pied piper of animals,” they find and follow her everywhere. She hopes to be able to live long enough to marry, raise a family, and enjoy some of the “normal” experiences life has to offer. Thanks for any support you can give!
