Family and friends of Logan Siciliano are uniting to raise money to help pay for medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance

Logan's Journey

When Logan was born in January of 2011, he was diagnosed almost immediately with Marfan Syndrome. Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a genetic disorder of connective tissue. Connective tissue holds all parts of the body together and helps control how the body grows. MFS affects connective tissue throughout the body. MFS features are most often found in the heart, blood vessels, bones, joints, and eyes. Sometimes, the lungs and skin are also affected.
Logan has long arms and fingers, as well as long legs, and he is also nearsighted (we just recently purchased his first pair of glasses). Most importantly, Marfan affects the heart. Logan was born with leaky valves and an enlarged aorta.

Because of Logan’s leaky valves, he has had congestive heart failure (CHF) throughout his infancy, and has been in and out of Albany Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The CHF worsened, and at 7 months, Logan was going to need a very complicated open heart surgery. He was transported by ambulance from AMC to Boston Children’s Hospital to see the best surgeon, Dr. Del Nido.

Logan underwent extensive open heart surgery on September 1, 2011. Dr. Del Nido, Surgeon Extraordinaire, repaired three heart valves, and replaced part of Logan’s stretched aorta.

After surgery, Logan has been slowly improving. He is interacting more and even gaining some weight. We will always be so grateful to Dr. Del Nido and the TEAM at Boston Children’s Hospital for saving Logan’s life! Logan is so much better than he has ever been.

However, we know Logan has a long road ahead. Marfan Syndrome will affect him throughout his life. He will have ongoing medical needs. He will need more hospitalizations and surgeries on his heart valves and aorta as he grows.

Logan has a Big Brother, Connor, age 2, and his loving mother and father. Mom, Stephanie, has been at Logan’s side in the ICU. Dad, Mark, has stayed with Connor at home in Latham and continued to work. Boston is the best place for Logan’s care. However, this has meant hardship, with prolonged stays out of town, high hospital bills, and lots of travel for the family.

To help the family defray costs of Logan’s current and future medical needs, hospitalizations, and surgeries, Logan’s Heroes were born!
