This is Nathan's Fund. The funds will be used for Nathan's medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance/ victims comp

On November 27th 2011 my sons life and my entire families lives took a dramatic turn that we have yet to recover from. My son answered the door at a friend’s house and took a shotgun blast to the stomach.
Let me clarify, he did Nothing wrong. He was shot over a quarrel that another couple was having. The kid that shot him had no idea who he was and obviously didn’t care. He did survive after several surgeries, and five days in ICU. He survived, but is far from “being whole”!
The colostomy remains, as well as the physical and emotional pain. Denver Health saved his life! As soon as the life/ death situation had settled we were dumped on the street and told to go to University. He was sent home from Denver Health with an infection that was not being treated! We have since resolved the infection.
It was decided by University Hospital that “reversing the colostomy is not medically necessary”. It was a nightmare getting pain meds while he still needed them. I had no idea that colostomy supplies had to be mail ordered, or that the supplies would run hundreds every month.
Nathan is twenty years old; no health insurance, hasn’t been injured long enough for disability, hasn’t worked enough to qualify for social security, and is too young for Medicaid/ Medicare. Victims’ compensation is supposed to cover seventy percent up to fifteen thousand but every time a doctor calls them they say they won’t guarantee anything!
Thanks to nine news reporter Anastasiya Bolton, Denver Health has agreed to do the reversal. He still has a long way to go before being fully recovered.
My son and I both need our lives back. The repetitive victimization by the medical and legal systems is destroying us both emotionally and financially! My son needs his smile back! My twelve and three year olds need there mother back as well.
