Please help support Brian during his battle against a very rare and very aggressive form of Lymphoma.

Updated 8/17:

The lymphoma did respond to the first chemo protocol but there was no sustained response, i.e. it didn't work. Brian has chosen to keep fighting with what my Aunt has called "Turbo-chemo" which will be delivered inpatient IV over a period of four days. Hopefully there will be less difficult side-effects than the first round since the infusion time is expanded from 3-1/2 hours to 96 hours. As my Aunt has said in the past, "Cross 'em, kids!"

We need your support now more than ever, so that Brian and Heidi are able to stay in their home during what is sure to be a difficult phase of treatment. Even though Heid repeatedly reminds Brian that she would rather grow old together in a cardboard box than alone in their home, we want to ensure that they don't even have to worry about this!

**

This past winter, my Uncle Brian was diagnosed with a very rare and very aggressive cancer called Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma. The cancer is a type of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma that accounts for only between one and two percent of all NHL cases in the United States. Brian began chemotherapy in March, treatment that was delayed after a lab lost one of his biopsied lymph nodes, and had his sixth infusion mid-June. While the cancer has responded some to treatment, his doctors recently ordered another biopsy after kidney malfunctions, enlarged abdominal lymph nodes, edema, and other signs indicated the lymphoma may still be present, and very likely in a new and different form. Just a few days ago, Brian was readmitted for observation and further testing after he had difficulty breathing and other worrisome symptoms.

In short, Brian needs our help. His application for Social Security Disability benefits was recently denied and he hasn't been able to work since before Christmas. In addition, his wonderful and amazing wife, Heidi, who has been by his side every step of the way, suffers from Lupus, and both of her children have Fragile-X syndrome and require around-the-clock care. She is working full time, caring for their children, and trying to be by his side every minute she can. Their medical bills are astronomical, and their living expenses are slowly becoming untenable. I am asking for help for Brian and Heidi, two of the most wonderful people I have ever known and who I feel indescribably privileged to call my family. Please contribute if you can, so that my Aunt can focus all her attention on caring for her husband and he can focus on getting better, rather than worrying about how they'll pay their mortgage. I have never seen two people more selflessly devoted to one another, and their love has always been an inspiration in my life.

Brian still has so much living to do, still so much to offer in this life. This world has not yet had enough of his beautiful photographs, his writing, and certainly has not yet had enough of his love. Please help us take care of Brian so he can heal without the strain of financial worry.

If you would like to mail a check directly to the family, please email me at fundsforbriancoleman@gmail.com for the mailing address.
