The friends and family of Emily Hawley are trying to raise money to pay off medical bills from her battle with Chiari Malformation!

In 2010 Emily was diagnosed with Arnold Chiari Malformation stage 1 and Syringomyalia. Chiari malformation is where the cerebellum sits too low in the skull, blocks the flow of cerebral spinal fluid and often times presses on the spinal cord. Syringomyalia is where the fluid that normally is around the spinal cord builds up in the cord forming a syrnix, which is like a cyst. In May 2010 Emily underwent surgery in hopes of correcting the malformation. The surgery only helped for about 8 months before symptoms returned. Symptoms including headaches, dizziness, light headedness, vision problems and blacking out.

In August of 2011 the Dr's started talking about wanting to do another surgery again and put in a patch to hold her cerebellum up in place to provide more room for the cerebral spinal fluid to flow. The surgery was scheduled for October, but the same week the surgery was finally scheduled, Emily and her husband found out they have a little one on the way! The options at that point were to continue with surgery and most likely terminate the pregnancy, or cancel surgery and deal with another almost year of symptoms that'd only get worse. They chose the 2nd option and over the pregnancy, symptoms sure have became worse.

Currently (March 29th) at 7 months pregnant Emily can't even drive due to the symptoms being so bad, is on medication and spends most of the day in bed not able to function too well due to headaches and blurred vision.

Shortly after baby Ivan is born she will undergo another surgery this time a patch will be placed in to help provide more room and hold the cerebellum up in place. This surgery should last longer, and hopefully be the last one needed.

Due to her medical condition Emily is unable to work, so her and her husband live off of only his income. Due to only one income they struggle financially and are still trying to pay on bills that are 2+ years old.

All donations will go straight to paying for medical bills. Any donation no matter how big or small is appreciated more than words will ever be able to express.
