An Eye For Joey
Joey broke every bone in his face. At 13 he has lost one eye and has many months of healing and more surgery in the future. He has not lost
I have 9 grandbabies. I wouldn't trade a single one of them. They are all special, each in their own way. And Joey is no exception. Straight A student, believes in God, devoted friend, perfectly healthy 13 year old with a great smile and amazing sense of humor. On June 30, 2010 he was on vacation with his Dad and Grandparents. There was a terrible accident, a jet ski slammed him in the face at 55 MPH. Amazingly enough he didn't get a scratch on his body. No brain damage, very mild whiplash. He did crush his precious little face. Every bone broken. Shattered. The papers were signed to remove the eye that was severely damaged. A prosthesis will be placed where his beautiful eye once looked out with glitter from the smile he almost always wore. To say that his family is crushed is putting it unbelievably mildly. His mama is strong and only cries when she is out of his room. The money is gone, all extra spent on flights to the out of state hospital he was flown to, baggage fees to fly, child care for the other three children, missed work, lodging, taxis to and from and the list just goes on and on. His first surgery will be on Monday (tomorrow) to remove his precious eye and the major surgery will be on Tuesday with 9 attending physicians and an expected 14-16 hours. We are asking all those who can find it in their hearts and pocketbooks to please help as you can. The insurance will cover up until he leaves the hospital. No prosthesis or follow up or the tutoring and special treatment he will need in recovery. No donation is too big or small. From a grandmother who's heart is simply broken, my sincere thanks and please know that my prayers go out for all who take us into your hearts.
When I first started this fundraiser, Joey was in Dallas in the hospital. Since that time (19 days ago) things have moved along, just as life always does. Someone once told me that no matter what happens good or bad, time just keeps right on moving. This is where Joey is 19 days after my plea for help. We still need your help. This journey is just beginning. Please click on the link below and select the video tab at the top of the box. This is the little guy who has brought so much goodness out in so many. Thank you so much for all the prayers and donations. Without those prayers I don't think this family could have made it this far.
