Fund to pay Mewdy Blue's veterinary bill. Money raised will help to diagnose his condition.

I always hate asking for help but am forced to seek your assistance for my buddy, Mewdy Blue. He was one of five kittens born to a feral cat I took in 15 years ago. At a very young age he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a not uncommon heart disease in cats. From that inauspicious start he became a star of stage and screen.

First he enjoyed a career as a show cat eventually earning his title of Royal Household Pet. Then he dabbled in feline agility, first at a dog park then in authentic agility competitions. In one year he helped to introduce feline agility to television audiences in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and became the first cat to win Best Agility Cat in the CFA Midwest Region.

He also became a popular Pet Therapy cat visiting adult day centers, youth shelters and long term care facilities. Later he gave demonstrations to senior citizens and veterinary students. He also stood in as a “guinea pig” for veterinary students to learn how to do physical exams on cats.

Unfortunately my financial situation has forced us out of the limelight. We no longer travel to cat shows or agility competitions. His age has also started to bring on some health issues. I have already lost three of my oldest cats this year so my vet bills have really been high.

Though Mewdy Blue’s cardiomyopathy is well controlled today with medication, he has been having trouble with his liver. This past weekend he stopped eating so I had to take him in to the emergency service at Iowa State University for a panel of very expensive lab tests. After I.V. fluids he began to eat again for them and I brought him home knowing that we may have to do more tests in the next few weeks or even days.

Tonight he will not eat again.

Mewdy Blue has been my close buddy for 15 years. Going home without him last night was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I hope I don’t have to do that again for a very long time. For now I am only asking for help paying his initial bill of $475.00. If you can donate any small amount we would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully he will start eating again and we won’t have to go in for more tests.
