Crystal Wolshin has been fighting a malignant brain tumor for the past 10 years, and is about to under go her fourth brain surgery.

The footprints of Crystal Wolshin,

On October 3, 2012, Crystal Wolshin celebrated her 25th birthday, along with 10 years of survival with her malignant brain tumor.

Crystal was born and raised on the island of Kauai where she continues to reside. She was a sophomore in high school when she found out she had a brain tumor. The doctors were amazed at the size and mass of her tumor, saying she had approximately 6-8 months to live. Within four days, Crystal was flown to Oahu, where she had her first open brain surgery. The doctors discovered that she had one of the rarest types of brain tumors, cancerous and very aggressive.

Over the last 10 years, Crystal has had many surgeries, from the top neurologists in the nation, one being the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Also, Crystal has undergone two different forms of chemotheraphy treatments. She has suffered daily from seizures, emotional and physical problems, and has been hospitalized numerous times. The fact that she is still alive is attributed to her strong will to survive, her "joie de vivre", her faith in God, her devoted family, and her "never give up" mentality. She is truly a walking miracle.

Words From Crystal!

Finding out that I had a brain tumor was hard enough. Having it and going through this journey for almost ten years now has been a challenge I never expected.

James1:2-4  says ‘My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’

Before I found out about the tumor, God wasn’t a part of my life. I knew He existed, I went to church camps when I was younger, but I never really understood and never really had a relationship with God.

Jeremiah29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Looking back I can see how God was working in my life from the beginning.

Philippians4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanks giving,  let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’

Going into my first surgery I don’t remember being scared, I think that it was His peace that kept me strong and not afraid.

Now going into my fourth brain surgery, I have the faith and confidence that God is taking care of me.

Getting to know God and having a relationship with Him is what has helped me get through these trying times. The support of my family and special friends has been awesome. I have not been able to drive for the last nine years. When the phone rings and a friend offers to pick me up for coffee they have no idea how much that means to me. Sometimes I feel like I sit at home like a sad puppy waiting for someone to come and pick me up. The phone just rang as I was typing these paragraphs. Dr. Spetzler just called and my surgery is scheduled for October 23rd. Please keep me in your prayers. With Love, Faith and Thankfulness,Crystal Wolshin

In ten days, it is imperative that Crystal will undergo another surgery. The tumor has grown an additional 6 centimeters, making it massive and completely debilitating.

Time is of the essence! If you can find it in your heart to help with a donation, Crystal and her family would be forever grateful.
