Help save Copper the Boxer! Copper is an 8mo. old Boxer pup that desperately needs balloon valvulplasty surgery to survive.

Copper is an eight month old Boxer pup that was recently rescued from a local no-kill shelter. Unfortunately, he was adopted out with a terminal congenital grade 6 heart murmur that was not discovered at the shelter. He had to be rushed to an animal ER on Saturday, July 2, and was then referred to a local animal hospital for an echocardiogram. The results are not good. Without surgery to repair his heart, Copper's life will be shortened with a steady progression into poor health and, or sudden death from cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the technique of balloon valvuloplasty has been perfected in dogs and has a very high rate of success. With this surgery, Copper can have a full and active life.

The shelter has acknowledged that they,"dropped the ball" by not finding the murmur, even though he was neutered there under general anesthesia. They are not going to donate fund for Copper's surgery

Copper's only been with us about one month and he means so much to us. You see, we lost our dear Brodie last November. He was a ten year old Boxer that went into renal failure and we couldn't bear to see him suffer any longer. We fought hard for several months, exhausting many resources trying to keep him healthy, and we are still recovering financially and emotionally. Some of the very best times of our lives were with him.

Then came Copper! He came home, licked the cat, a rescued Tabby, in the face and was smitten by the beautiful Abbie, our rescued Am Staff Terrier. They all have been thick-as-theives ever since. It is remarkable how much he looks like Brodie, but their mannerisms and habits are almost identical; he even prefers the chair that only Brodie liked. So you all can imagine what a blow it was to find out about his heart. There has been so many de ja vu moments during this current ordeal...the vets, the referrals, the animal ER, the expense, and the all nighters lying on the floor next to a sick companion. Once again, we find ourselves in a position to have to make some very difficult decisions. Without the requested funds for surgery, Copper's future is not promising.
