This is the Debi Landrie and Meredith Ellis lightning strike fund. Please show your support by helping pay for the medical expense.9/18/11end

9/16 UPDATE!!! : Debi and Meredith have been home for two weeks now. Even though they have a long road ahead of them, they are taking day by day and are both recovering remarkably well. Debi is being stubborn and wants to do everything on her own but she is using some assistance for walking and is accepting help when she needs it. Meredith is currently seeing a few specialists and we are awaiting the results.
While we have hit their original goal, their bills have exceeded what they anticipated. If anyone was intending to donate but have not, this is the last weekend to do so.
They both owe a majority of their healing to each of you so thank you very much. They will be thanking each of you individually for this incredible show of love.
8/25/11 UPDATE!!!: Debi and Meredith are out of the hospital and staying at a hotel near by. They are recovering and getting some well deserved rest. They are coming home on Sunday night. Once they are back they will need to be checked out by doctors here. So glad to have them coming home soon! Thank you all for your donations, love and support!!! They are amazed with the kind words and love they have received!

The family and friends of Debi Landrie and Meredith Ellis are uniting to help offset/assist with medical/daily living expenses to alleviate the financial burden from this tragic accident.

On August 11th, 2011 Debi, Meredith, Christina and Jen were on vacation in Costa Rica. They all had just celebrated Debi's birthday the day before and had a perfect day. The next day, the girls decided to go exploring on some four wheelers in Nosara. It started to rain and thunder and they took shelter under a shed. The shed had a metal roof which was later stuck by lightning. A side splash lightning bolt then hit 3 of the 4 girls and they fell to the ground.

Debi is still in the hospital with internal burns, external burns, a weak heart, some memory loss, a hole in her eardrum and the desire to come home and see her little dog Kobe. The doctors say that her heart is not strong enough to go home and that this is the beginning to a long road to recovery. She currently can not walk and is having to rely on others for everything...and if you know Debi, that is very hard for her because she is Miss Independent! I am told that she is being a good patient though! Debi will not be able to work when she gets back and she will also need constant care for months and potentially years to come.

Meredith is not currently admitted in the hospital, but she was paralyzed for a while when she was struck by lightning. She is walking, but her muscles are very weak and her recovery will take a long time as well. A few days ago it was difficult for her to hold a pen and write her name. She is currently in Costa Rica with Debi, keeping her company in the hospital.

Both girls have been scared being in the hospital in a foreign country with no friends or family to comfort them. The expenses are adding up quickly and they need your help. I am asking friends and family for donations so they don't have to worry about money but rather put their energy into getting better so they can come home and heal. Please give from your hearts as this is a non tax deductible donation. All money will directly go to Debi & Meredith into their personal trust that I have setup for them.

Out of respect for the other 2 girls in Costa Rica and the situation they are in, I am only telling Meredith and Debi's story.

If you want to know more, below is a link to an article telling the girls story: www.voiceofnosara.com/08_11_regional_06.html

Thank you for all of your prayers and support! The girls and myself are very lucky to have the friends and family we do!

Thank you sooo much!
Emily Ellis (Meredith's Sister)
