We are raising a modest fund to help purchase an iPad for Aidan. Please read how this could help change his life.

Many of you know Aidan. He has a heart of gold. Very often, though, he is frustrated with himself, school work, social situations, etc... He is so smart but it breaks our hearts to see him bang his head while he's telling us, "I can't find the word!" While Aidan is fairly verbal, this is still a source of great difficulty for him.

Sometimes, he finds situations extremely upsetting and we not only have no idea how to help him but don't know what's wrong in his "world".

Cami, Aidan's sister, has written papers about Aidan and was even published in a book titled Siblings: The Autism Spectrum Through Our Eyes. In a recent paper she wrote in her English class, Cami wrote about our family and her wish for calm and peace for Aidan. She wrote about how much she loves Aidan but, sometimes, Aidan melts away and then we're left with tantrums and frustration.

Davis, Aidan's younger brother, has asked me why "Aidan's brain is on fire" and has shared that he wishes Aidan wouldn't "be frustrated and mean".

What those who know Aidan understand is that Aidan is far from mean. He simply has a difficult time navigating through the daily tasks of life in terms of socialization, communication, and learning.

Recently, I discovered that there are many amazing apps that can be used on an iPad that help kids like Aidan tremendously. These apps help with social stories, Aidan's language and speech, and other educational activities that are designed for learners like Aidan just to mention a few. Additionally, we can track specific behaviors, medications, and the possible connection between the two to better help Aidan's doctors prescribe medications and therapies to the best of their abilities. Once Aidan begins to understand the programs (He's a smart little guy.), then hopefully he will begin to have an understanding of his own actions through feedback and processing through the iPad.

Aidan can take the iPad to school and to the doctor. We can print out information for all those who work with Aidan including physicians, therapists, teachers, behavioralists, parents, and involved family members.

These websites might help give you a better idea of what's out there for Aidan. There are numerous news articles about parents' experiences with the use of an iPad and related apps with their autistic child.

Know that I will post receipt of payment once we finally are able to purchase this great device!

We want to do everything we can to help Aidan in our world so he can give back.
