The funds raised through this site will allow the JLMS HOSA students to attend the Florida State Leadership Conference.

Introducing students to health careers and community service is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow's healthcare workforce.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club is a program that addresses this opportunity. The Middle School Division of Florida HOSA is for students in 6th through 8th grades who are interested in health care. This division of the Florida HOSA organization has been designated as a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) and has been specifically designed to meet the needs of these talented students! The Middle School Division of Florida HOSA allows students the opportunity to learn more about the healthcare field. This information can be used to define a possible future occupation and the skills learned can be used for a lifetime! You can read more by logging on to and clicking on the Middle School Division and Through this organization, students will have an opportunity to develop character and effective leadership qualities and skills-skills needed in the healthcare field.
Dr. John Long Middle School (JLMS) HOSA club is the only club in Pasco County who participated in the Florida State HOSA competition. For the past two years, we have had 7th and 8th graders compete at the Florida HOSA state competition. In addition to the competition, the members have raised money and made reindeer candy canes/no-sew blankets for Shriner’s Hospital for Children during Christmas. They participated in the Diabetes Walk by raising money and providing information about Diabetes to the students of JLMS. They have been involved in Pasco County Health Department’s Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) team by organizing SWAT week at school. This event gave them opportunity to educate the students about the dangers of tobacco. They collected over 150 tobacco free pledges at school. In addition to that, they have also collected 250 signatures for American Cancer Society’s petition for $1 cigarette tax increase and have raised money for the Relay for Life.
