The donations will be used for Shanda 's kidney transplant and to offset her expenses while out of work for transplant and recovery.

In Shanda's senior year 1996 she had a rare disease call P-Anka which is a vasculitis
disease. She was sick for a couple of years before that and they thought it was allergies and also a severe kidney infection. The disease causes your immune system to destroy your vital organs instead of attacking antibodies in your system. We finally found out what was wrong with her when we took her to our family physician and he had us take her to the ER. She was in intense care for a couple of weeks. They did not think she was going to pull through. She lost both her kidneys and almost died because she had the diseasse in her lungs. They finally got it under control but not before it took it's toll. She had a very rough year or two. She was on dialysis for a little over a year. I (her mom) was able to be tested and was bless enough to donate a kidney. She had her transplant in August of 1997. She has been sick off and on throught the years. But overall for 15 years she has adapted well. She has always had a upbeat attitude about it. She has never let it get her down. She has been pretty sick in the last year. When she went to her last appointment she was told that the reason for her being sick this year more than previous years is becuase her kidneys is weakening and in the process of eventual failure. The doctors do not want her to have to go through dialysis again so they asked her to start looking for a donor. She is still working but wears easily. She is a Assistant Manager for Walgreens and she takes pride in her job and does her best! She has insurance but they only pay so much. She has no sick days becuase she has been sick alot this year. She has disability leave but full pay only lasts for 4 weeks. Depending on before and afer surgury we dont know what her time being out of work will be. She will be out of work longer than this allotted time period and she will have to pay insurance premiums herself because she cannot loose her coverage. If she loses her insurance she would not be able to afford her medicine or any treatments.
Transplants can costs from 250,000 and up not to mention any other medical expenses that will occur. She will also need to be able to pay her bills.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and any donations that you give will be greatly appreciated.
